Tag clouds communicate popularity/trends by the visual size of the link. Arranging them in order of size makes that communication somewhat redundant and makes specific tags you might be looking for near impossible to find if they aren't popular.
I'll admit a tag cloud in alphabetical order generally looks shit though so personally I avoid them in favour of nicely typeset lists with a number or some other device to indicate the popularity of the link.
It's worth considering a different approach because from a usability perspective all it does now is highlight content that's already popular.
